For me there is the need to maintain an awareness of the tripartite capabilities of the mediums in which art is made: their physicality, their potential metaphoric content and their ability as illusionistic means. In all of these there is ultimately the transformative, as any one of these may simultaneously yield to the others.
The performative aspect of painting
Painting requires an actor, stage and audience of one. Its stages, scenes, innumerable rehearsals and decisions executed in time are imbedded in its singular substance.
